An affordable ML center! June 27, 2010 Bob Buddy Finally, a Martin Logan center channel that I can afford. For years I lusted after their $2000 models. This little $200 marvel is a good timbre match to my ML mains, even though it's not an electrostatic. I'm thinking of getting another for the rear surround channel.
Great center chanel speakerr June 21, 2010 Boston Pete (Boston, MA) Just put in a new flat panel TV and needed a center speaker for the sound system that was thinner than the old one. This one was perfect and the the sound quality is outstanding.
Solid center at a fabulous price April 3, 2010 Quality Matters (Houston, TX USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
MartinLogan makes quality, high fidelity products. This center channel speaker is no exception and at $200 this center is a steal. I have 2 ML Prefaces for my left and right. I was a little nervous that this center would get lost between them. The prefaces can be driven up to 200 Watts and the Encore TF only to 100W. My worries were totally unfounded. It presents human voices accurately (job 1), provides a strong broad range of sound in the front (job 2) and transfers sound (e.g. helicopter flying left to right across the screen - job 3) seamlessly between the left and right channels.
I've got this center and the prefaces hooked up to an Emotiva UPA-5 Amplifier to ensure steady at 4 ohms performance (ML Speakers REALLY should be given the proper amplification as most receivers can't deliver the power through 4 ohm impedance that they require). Sound sources (Xbox 360, LG BD390 Blu-Ray, Wii, HD Cable box) route through a Denon AVR-3808CI to the Amp. Give this speaker about 72 to 100 hours of play time before judging it's performance. The ATF driver requires break-in to accurately present its full auditory range. Expect it to sound a little tight at first. It evens out / warms up quickly. Lastly, I used Signal Cable's Ultra Speaker Cables for delivering clear accurate sound to the speakers and as Interconnects between the Receiver and AMP. I have the speakers I've mentioned paired with the ML Abyss 12 inch sub and as a result my 13' x 16' room is filled to overflowing with full, dynamic, accurate range of sound.
One final thought. A good TV gives you the visual fidelity to draw you in (I have a Panasonic TC-P58s1 with ISF calibration), but the speakers convey the emotional content of a home theater scene. Balance your budget and be sure to get good sound along with that great TV. This center holds its own in the middle a cast of quality components. Don't hesitate. Just buy it. You'll be pleased with your purchase!
Great Speaker March 11, 2010 Jason Soderlund (ELLICOTTVILLE, NY, US) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have this speaker as my center and my surrounds. Awesome quality, appearance and sound. The detail and clarity is one of the best I have ever heard. Dialouge is much easier to understand, even if it is quiet. MartinLogan makes great speakers and this one is no exception.
Great Speaker!! March 4, 2010 Benjamin I. Sevilla (Minnapolis, MN USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recently took advantage of this huge sale and upgraded my center speaker with this one. I was kind of skeptic, did not know how much the sound was going to change, but What a difference!!!I have to say that I was surprised. With my old cheap speaker, I had to adjust the volume of the center channel about 8dB above the rest of the other channels, it just could not reach the rest of the speakers and sounded opaque. When I installed this Martin Logan, the sound was so clear that I had to re-adjust the channel, otherwise it would dominate the other speakers. This was a great buy, it is musical, clear and delivers good bass too. I recommend it very much.
