Sony speakers OK but not great June 28, 2010 Rupert Good for a quiet room but is hard to hear in a car at highway speeds. Have to hold it near my head to be able to hear audio books on the road and sound is tinny and buzzes some.
Very low volume compared to other speakers using similar drivers! June 20, 2010 Rohan R. Patil (Atlanta, GA USA) Highs: B+
Mids: B+
Bass: C
I own an Altec Lansing T515 portable Blue-tooth speaker and primarily use it to stream DI.FM Vocal Trance from my Laptop to the bathroom. These Sony's and the Altec's have very similar drivers (also in terms of size) so I was expecting similar performance; but I was totally disappointed with the lack of power at their price point.
Both the Altec's and Sony's use four AAA batteries and have similar drivers but the Altec's sound twice as loud and powerful without distortion. Even if I crank up the Sony's to full volume, they don't sound as loud, in fact just end up crackling!
The other disappointment were the tangling wires which are also very short. I bought these to put them on either side of my twin bed on the side tables to listen to music at night but the wire between the two speakers barely spans a pillow :(
For a similar price point, I would any-day go for the JBL Duets, much better!
Functional but WEAK June 5, 2010 M. Ayres (Keizer, OR) These speakers were delivered with a AC adaptor for some non-US electrical system - two round poles on the plug. The vendor sent an adaptor after being asked about this - which did not work. Speakers were very weak - so don't plan on getting more than a few feet away when using them. The end result was that we were disappointed and returned them for refund.
Good product, unless you live in North America May 5, 2010 R. Joyner (AZ) Product is good. Does what it's supposed to for the price, however the description needs to be more specific. The A/C plug I received is NOT a standard North American plug (It's a Type C Europlug) NOWHERE in description does it mention this and as a matter of fact it says verbatim "only ships within U.S." So one would logically assume that it would be a standard N. American plug. Maybe I was just an unlucky consumer who accidentally was sent the wrong a/c plug so I called customer service and they are sending me an adapter for it but I really would have preferred the right plug instead since this is supposed to be "portable" this will only make it larger. If this company really wanted to stand by their service they would either have taken this one back and shipped me the right one or sent me the proper plug. This also makes me wonder if they already knew that all these models have the wrong plug as they were quick to just send me an adapter instead of proper product to begin with. This was purchased through Amazon but was distributed by "Worldwide Distributors". You have been warned if you have read this and then purchased it.
Sony SRSM50/BLK: Cute, small & light, acceptable sound May 2, 2010 Sony SRSM50/BLK. My first impression upon receiving this tiny pair and listening to it was that it sounded a bit louder than my Toshiba notebook's harman/kardon. After using it for two weeks, it grows on me. It won't beat any 2.1 systems or even other active portable speaker from Altec Lansing or Logitech, but if you use it for music, especially when you ar not on a noisy environment, the sound is satisfying. Sound quality if above average in that, other than lacking bass or any bass at all, it give clarity of instruments, and that you feel you are listening to a scale-down version of a musical performance. Use it for listening to background music is very good. It's trebble, unlike the one that came with my notebook, is smoother, non fatiguing and perhap a little dull sometimes but not to the degree of beeing bored. Rock music fans will not be impressed with this little pair for sure. Overall, I recommend it for the good sound quality it produces for general music and background music purposes.
