Product Description Our premium computer speakers deliver multichannel sound that seems to surround you, specifically designed for computer listening. Just right for music, games and movies-and setup is a snap. The Companion(R) 5 multimedia speaker system is engineered to deliver the excitement of surround sound content right at your computer-without the clutter of five speakers. Just two small speakers and a hideaway Acoustimass(R) module deliver much of the audio performance you'd expect from a five-speaker surround sound system. And a single USB connection is all it takes-no special software, hardware or sound card upgrade necessary.*
The system features a handy, all-in-one control pod to keep speaker volume control, single-touch mute, headphone jack and an auxiliary input all within easy reach. Speakers are mounted on stands enabling superb performance and more usable desktop space.
*For optimum performance, we recommend Windows XP or later. For Macintosh computers, OS X 10.4.6 or later.

Magnificent July 29, 2010 Dolamyt (Florida) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This system is simply magnificent. I enjoy many genres of music as well as serious games such as the new StarCraft 2 and the sound produced by this system is awesome. If configured correctly, music played by a symphony that is listened to with this system will "put you in the orchestra hall." Listening to Debussy I found that the system created a "picture for my ears." By that I mean that I felt as though I could hear each section of the symphony as they would be in the hall. That sounds weird but it is as though I am in the hall listening. The Acoustimass speaker is wonderful as well. It puts out some serious bass from the modern day hip-hop music that rivals systems made for TV. You can't appreciate these speakers in the store you have to take them home and try them. They are well worth the money. The Companion 5 system is a wonderful system for gamers as well as music lovers.
Might work for you, might not July 26, 2010 The Site 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I returned these and instead bought the Bowers-Wilkins MM-1 speakers, which costed more money.
The Bose and B-W installs were both effortless. The Bose has far greater bass capability, in fact, maybe too much.
The Bose are great-sounding, but what you really need is a way to sometimes "shut off" the virtual-soundstage synthesis they are trying to do. If you can't do that, then playing iTunes program material that is stereo-recorded sounds pretty strange. For example, Todd Rundgren and Jackson Browne both had really strange center-panned vocal suppression. It's like their voice was taken out of the songs, they were so far back in the mix that you couldn't tell what they were singing. Other mixes from other artists sounded fine, so it was really a crap shoot. I just couldn't enjoy not knowing whether I'd hear the vocal or not.
I own other Bose products (pilot headset for $1,000 and the first gen noise cancelling headphones for $500) and like the company and their products. But this Companion 5 product isn't suitable as a primary set of computer speakers if you can't play stereo audio through them, and they shouldn't be marketed that way.
FANTASTIC Bose Companion 5 system July 4, 2010 Mark (California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just took delivery from Amazon and installed it on my new computer system. Absolutely FANTASTIC.......easy set up and operation. Kudos to the first Amazon reviewer listed who did the extensive testing between Logitech and Bose. Bose wins hands down......I've got extensive home theater high end gear; not Bose by the way, and this system is smokin hot for bass, reproduction of vocals and channel separation, simply unequaled in the computer sound system realm. If you can afford it then go for it. Free shipping and no sales tax.
You will not be disappointed I GUARANTEE IT.....
Installed on a Gateway FX gaming machine, 16gb ram, Intel i-7, 1.5 terabit HDD.....
Running Windows 7 Ultimate.....simple USB plug and play for the install.
No; I am not a shill for Bose.......Bose Companion 5 multimedia speaker system - Graphite/Silver
Junk do not buy. June 16, 2010 V.T. Too (Moscow, ID USA) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
At first I loved these speakers. I loved the volume control with mute. It is right by my mouse. Just tap it and it mutes. I have had these speakers for less than a year and they hiss horribly. At the very lowest volume in the mid range they will hiss like they are blown. My wife is in my office with me so I can not play them very loud. Poor quality product. I would avoid.
I Would Not Recommend These Speakers May 13, 2010 GB (Seattle, WA, USA) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
This was my first purchase of a set of Bose speakers and I had high expectations of how good they would be. Unfortunately they have never met any of my expectations and I doubt I would buy any Bose speaker again.
From non standard speaker connections, to their weird habit of just muting themselves, they just do not work well.
As I had them connected to PC and MP3 player I would expect that they would have been designed for that usage, but clearly not. I have now gone back to my old Sony 5.1 system I bought them to replace, and for much less money, it just does everything so much better.
My Bose Companion 5 speakers also quickly developed a humm and Bose support was less than useful.
Save money and buy another brand. These Bose speakers are not worth the money and will only frustrate you.
